Prelicensing education courses

Education Qualifications for Licensure

An applicant must have satisfactorily completed, within the three years immediately preceding the date application is made, a 24 hour prelicensing education course approved by the NMLS or the Commissioner. There are two standards for the North Carolina prelicensing course:

  • The course shall consist of at least twenty four hours of  classroom or classroom equivalent instruction for initial applicants.
  • The course shall consist of at least twenty four hours of classroom, classroom equivalent or online-instructor led instruction for applicants currently licensed in any of the states approved through NMLS.

Approval indicates that the course meets NMLS and state specific education requirements only. The approval by the NMLS and the Commissioner of Banks (“NCCOB”) does not in any way constitute the NMLS or NCCOB's endorsement or recommendation of the providers or courses listed.

Review NC Prelicensing Education (PE) standards prior to registering for a PE course.

See the NMLS for approved Prelicensing Education (PE) course listings.
